Here is a group of general tips I have either taught myself or learned over the coarse of my photography career, although it may not be long.
Close One EyeWhen you look into a place like a deep forest, it may look beautiful to you right away, but the thing is, we see in 3D where you can tell the depth of objects. Closing one eye shows you the perspective of 2D which is what your photo will come out to be. Instead of this cool view of the forest you might want, the trees might seem to run into each other and look very different than what you expected. Utilizing this can save time and storage by knowing whether the picture is worth taking.

Practice A Steady HandWhether you are using a DSLR, Point-and-Shoot, or just your phone; learning how to give yourself a steady hand will help a lot. You can save yourself from taking many pictured just to get it right. Sometimes taking the pictures as you breath out can lower your shaking amount and save a photo. During the day, it might be easier to get a clear shot since the Shutter doesn't need to be open to long for the picture, but at night keeping steady can make all the difference.

Look Through Your SettingsMany phones (iPhone or Android) have more settings thank what you may think. Play around with your phone to see what you might not know you even have. There are even some apps that help you adjust your camera settings such as the ones below.
